ABE Council

The ABE Council acts as the final decision-making body of ABE in policy and education matters. Like the Education Committee, it comprises people with extensive experience and expertise in their field.

Mr Sidney Callis

Mr Callis is a qualified Chartered Accountant, with wide experience of working for major accountancy firms, the World Bank and other international bodies; he also ran a successful management consultancy business in South East Asia for many years

Mr Brian Donaldson

Recently retired from Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service after more than 40 years. Has worked in British Embassies and High Commissions in South America, Europe and Asia, and spent more than twenty years of his career in Africa, including postings as British High Commissioner in Namibia and Her Majesty's Ambassador to Madagascar. After retirement and the closure of the British Embassy in Madagascar for economic reasons, he founded a charity "The President of Madagascar's Small Grants Scheme" which funds small developmental projects in Madagascar such as the construction of primary schools, health centres and the installation of clear water systems. He is also Chairman of the Grants Committee of John Humphry's Kitchen Table Charities Trust and a Trustee of the Equitrade Foundation.

Mr Roy Fenner

Mr Fenner is a former HR Manager and Safety Training Specialist in the petroleum industry; he was a Founder Director of the International Petroleum Management Institution - The College of Petroleum Studies, Oxford

Mrs Margaret Foster

Mrs Foster is a former ILEA senior officer, and is a council member of a leading children's charity

Mr Baghel Grewal (Company Secretary)

Mr Grewal emigrated from India to the UK, and formerly taught in several UK public sector HE institutions; he also practised as a barrister and immigration judge

Emeritus Professor Frank Griffiths

Prof Griffiths was the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Metropolitan University and a former Education Secretary of NATFHE; he has also been a Visiting Professor at Hiroshima University. Mr Griffiths is the Chairman of China Business and qSEE Technologies, and is a director of other companies including the Crown Agents Foundation

Mr Peter Okaka

Mr Okaka is a former Director of Technical Education in Kenya; now a technical and vocational education consultant

Dr Ethlyn Prince

Dr Prince is a former Vice-Dean of the University of Guyana and Principal of Haringey College. She is also a Barrister at Law, has served as an Adjudicator and was a former member of the board of governors at Brighton University

Dr Trevor Sikorski

Dr Sikorski is a former employee of PriceWaterhouseCoopers; now a Senior Principal with economic forecasters Global Insight, London

Mr Malcolm Simpson

Mr Simpson has experience of the HE sector through his work at London South Bank University; now working in the private sector

Dr John Stoddart CBE

Dr Stoddart is a former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University; former Chairman of the Higher Education Quality Council and the Education Counselling Service

Dato' Dr Tan Tiong Hong (Chairman)

Former member of the Malaysian Parliament (1978-1986); Deputy Minister of Education and Deputy Minister of Finance in the Malaysian Cabinet, and Deputy Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office.
Former Senior Associate Member at Saint Anthony's College, Oxford University (1986-1992).
Former Group Managing Director for Guoco China Investment Limited (1993-1997).
Executive Chairman of CAM International Holdings Ltd "CIHL", listed in the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange (1998-current).
