ABE CEO Rob May on the trailblazing ABE Endorsed KidsSDGs programme
I’m excited to announce that ABE, in partnership with The Sustainability Academy, has launched a ground-breaking new programme for schools – ABE Endorsed KidsSDGs. Based on the United Nations framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this course will introduce issues such as inequality, poverty, health, wellbeing, and climate change, empowering children to explore the fundamental challenges facing our planet, so that they can work towards building the future they want to create.
Building on the successful format of ABE Endorsed KidsMBA, the KidsSDGs programme will enable 11-to-15-year-olds to advocate, explain and participate in activities which will help them embrace a fragile world and build something stronger.
Why are we launching this programme?
For more than 40 years ABE has been the destination brand for learning practical business and entrepreneurship skills, but we also care about an open, inclusive, global market economy where everyone benefits from responsible globalisation and trade. It’s a philosophy we call The ABE Way. Combining the commercial skills and ideas taught in our KidsMBA programme with a robust understanding of social impact is the perfect start in shaping a new generation of citizen-entrepreneurs.
A key indicator for measuring the successful adoption of sustainable practices by 2030 is to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and an appreciation of cultural diversity. The ABE Endorsed KidsSDGs programme covers all these areas.
Why ABE Endorsed KidsSDGs should be an essential part of your school's curriculum
Schools have a critical role in raising awareness of the global challenges we face and showing how the SDGs will help to secure positive change. With this programme, school leaders can leverage their position and transform their learning environments into innovative and dynamic hubs which equip students with the knowledge and skills that will help them create a more sustainable future. This flexible 18 module programme provides an overview of the agenda and looks at each of the 17 SDGs, culminating in a sustainability project that can be easily implemented by your school.
As an enrichment programme or curriculum ‘bolt-on’ it gives educators the opportunity to add value to their curriculum, and to demonstrate to parents how your school is playing a proactive role in promoting positive change. The thoughts and feelings that will emerge during this fun and engaging programme will last a lifetime. We’ve applied the same robust development processes that we use to develop all our programmes as a regulated and internationally trusted awarding organisation. I’m proud that ABE is using its reach, resources, and capabilities to play a part in creating a safer and more prosperous future for everyone.
