Robert Kambwembwe, Malawi - Top Paper Award in Managing People, studied at The University of Malawi Management Centre
I was born on 25th February 1976 in a family of nine siblings. I am married to Khumbo Mhango and we have two children.
I got selected into the University of Malawi, Chancellor College in 2000 and graduated in 2004. I obtained the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities specialising in English.
I worked as a secondary school teacher at Michiru View Secondary School in Blantyre before joining the civil service in 2011. Currently, I am working as a Curator for the Department of Culture stationed at the Museum of Malawi under the Ministry of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development. Here is my picture and logo of the Government of Malawi which we use on our official communication documents.
I chose ABE for many reasons. For example, I conducted research on the examination boards that provide HRM programmes and I discovered that your diplomas were rich in terms of content and offered a good grounding for a proper career in HRM. ABE is a reputable and competitive board that offers internationally recognised qualifications that equip students with valuable skills to perform their duties effectively. My plan is to go further with my studies in the area of HRM.
I also liked the material in the syllabi because it was really of the highest standard. I have gained a lot of skills. These include management skills such as the importance of good communication and the relevance of motivation to work.
I encourage students to work hard in their respective studies. It is important to participate and attend all lectures if possible. Be attentive in class and devise a mechanism for revision such as a time table. Every student should have a vision / motive of what they want to achieve at the end of their study and should work towards that goal.
My long term plan is to become a HRM professional with the highest qualification such as a doctorate degree by God’s Grace.
