"The knowledge I have acquired allowed me to employ myself: I am a foreign exchange trader!" ABE Level 5 graduate, Serge, wants to inspire others with his passion for learning.
Many ABE learners have inspiring stories to share. One such person is Level 5 graduate, Serge, who wants to inspire others with his passion for learning. Here's his story:
"'Knowing is owning'- these words have revolutionised my life in terms of learning. In this age, one becomes irrelevant when they do not learn. Furthermore, one becomes more irrelevant when not up to date in terms of knowledge. This being so, I decided to be an addict of knowledge. I believe learning is a tool that can make the difference between winners and losers both in the corporate world in particular and in life in general. Mark Zuckerberg is known for reading a book every two weeks, Warren Buffet, the well known investor reads between 500 to 1,000 pages in a day (a serious reader) and the list is not exhaustive. I learn everyday from the books and external links provided by ABE. In addition, I read up as much as possible on subjects related to my course (i.e. business management) such as effective negotiation, public speaking, and the like.
The knowledge I have acquired allowed me to employ myself: I am a foreign exchange trader! The learning through ABE was an arrow in my quiver, an added advantage! I also advise business people on how to start up and grow their businesses, and how to overcome obstacles they face. For this my weight has increased in the industry.
The main challenge I have faced was the connection between theory and practice of the real world. It was not easy to be accepted as professional only with a paper from the college even though it carries weight. However I overcame this by networking with businessmen who were already in the field and I learned from their daily activities. The second challenge I faced was to find a job that would allow me to practise my learning and provide a good revenue. I overcame this by employing myself.
My future ambition is to work and study in the evening or by distance learning. For my business I look for investors to fund it so that I can bring in greater revenue. However, if there is a good job opportunity I will go for it, as long as I achieve my passion for managing companies. I would like to inspire others and to catapult into the business world for the welfare of not only my single life, but also for that of the humanity since selfishness is not a word found in my dictionary. I believe in leaving a legacy and in changing not just the community, but the world at large!"
