Shawnté Shania Swann - Winner of Top Paper Award in Enterprising Organisations, studied at CTS College of Business and Computer Science
After completing her ABE studies, Shawnté plans to travel the world to motivate and inspire as many people as she can to accomplish their greatest dreams. Here is her story:
"I am 17 years old and from the small island of Trinidad, I currently live with my parents and brothers. After writing the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination I immediately enrolled to pursue my diploma as a full-time student at CTS College of Business and Computer Science Limited.
I chose the ABE programme because of its worldwide recognition, affordability, flexibility and lastly for its world-class education standards.
ABE is seen as an effective and efficient pathway for attaining the tertiary level education required by employers.
My immediate plans, after I have completed my ABE qualifications, are to pursue a career in business and put all of my attained knowledge into practice. I am going to attain my PhD, establish my very own business and travel the world to motivate and inspire as many people as I can to accomplish their greatest dreams.
In my opinion, the best thing about studying with ABE is not having to complete all levels before obtaining a certificate but rather receiving qualifications at every level. I am also very appreciative of all of the free student resources ABE provides its students, such as academic journals, study guides, examiners reports etc.
I have attained a plethora of valuable skills from studying with ABE. Firstly, I have learned employability and self-development skills such as preparing for interviews, the importance of collaboration and teamwork, the formulation and creation of a curriculum vitae and LinkedIn profile and much more. In addition, I have gained priceless knowledge on the paramount importance of business ethics and have also got a feel of every other aspect in business. I can safely say that after studying with ABE for the past 10 months, I feel very confident about entering the professional world of business.
My first and most important tip to anyone studying is to put God first and I cannot stress how important this is. Many times while studying I felt overwhelmed and wanted to give up, however, I placed my best foot forward and left the rest to God and in those moments, when I felt like I couldn’t go on anymore, is when God showed me his power and when I performed my best. Begin every work/study session with a prayer and ask God to give you the wisdom and strength needed to complete your work. Secondly, do not make studying a burden. Find fun and engaging ways to study, reward yourself for your hard work and take frequent breaks. Remember that mental health is a vital part of your educational journey so know when enough is enough and respect your body and mind, we learn best when we are relaxed, not stressed. Study after every class, not anything too in-depth but go over your work and make sure you have a clear understanding of all the material; if not, speak to your lecturer for further assistance, that’s what they’re there for or find YouTube videos to further assist yourself; this is also important as it makes it easier when final exams arrive. Never compare yourself with anyone, keep your head straight and focus on your path; according to Theodore Roosevelt “comparison is the thief of joy”. Believe it, your time to shine bright will come, hold your head high, continue working and take care of your mental and physical health. Philippians 4:13 and my life motto reads, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” everyone has what it takes to make it in life because our strength comes from the Lord. In closing, always stay positive even when you have a million reasons to give up, look for the good in every bad situation, there is always one. See it, believe it and accomplish it… Words are powerful so SPEAK YOUR SUCCESS INTO EXISTENCE AND NEVER SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN THE BEST!"
