''To begin with, my name is Chrispin Matekenya, I am from Blantyre, Malawi. I am the youngest in a family of three sons; together with our parents, we are a family of five.
Having passed the Malawi School Certificate Examination with a credit, I was inspired by my aunt, Esther Matekenya, who pursued all levels of Diploma courses in Business Administration with ABE and secured a job as Assistant Administrative Officer in one of the reputable public organisations in Malawi. Thereafter, she joined the University of Malawi, where she pursued a degree in Human Resource Management. Further, she pursued a Masters in Business Administration at ESAMI. She rose to the rank of Chief Administration Officer.
Last year, I enrolled to study ABE at the Institute of Continuing Education at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). Choosing ABE automatically means that I will learn and acquire relevant skills i.e. good administration and management skills. In Malawi, to find a good job, after ABE, I must pursue a degree course of my choice, such as Business Administration/Accounting. Then, I will be able to find a good job where I can acquire new skills to broaden my knowledge and contribute effectively to the growth of the company.
The public impression about ABE in my country is that the ABE qualification is recognised globally. For instance, with Advanced Diploma in Business Administration/Management, you can find a job and work to the required standards. ABE skills gained are relevant in both public and private companies. Further to that, there are more job opportunities with ABE qualifications.
Meanwhile, after completing my current ABE qualification, my immediate plan is to pursue a degree programme in Business Administration/Accounting before looking for a job. I will also pursue a Masters in Business Administration to enhance my knowledge and acquire more skills. The best thing about studying ABE is that the course equips you with more skills relevant to enable someone to secure employment within or outside your home country.
In addition, Studying ABE is enabling me to acquire skills such as management, Dynamic & Collaborative Teams; problem solving, good communication, entrepreneurship and Teamwork. These skills are relevant in any organisation set up. Furthermore, tips for successful study are you must have time for studying your schoolwork, give more time to the subjects you find most difficult and join friends who understand those subjects better than you. You can also join students that hold discussions after lessons to understand the subjects better.
Lastly, one of my long-term career plans is to pursue a PhD programme and start my own company.''
