Felistus works as an Administrative Assistant for NGO Coalition on Child Rights, which aims to promote child rights programming in all development processes in Malawi. She gives credit to the Analytical Decision Making module from ABE for helping her make good decisions in her job. She also expressed her appreciation for ABE qualifications, which gave her exposure and a better understanding of the business world, and helped her build confidence and secure her first job.

Here is her full story:

''I come from a family of 4, two girls and 2 boys where I am the second born. I currently reside in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. Being the first-born girl, the family and society expected a lot from me which pressurised to always succeed.

NGO Coalition on Child Rights (NGO CCR) is a national coalition of NGOs and Civil Society Organisations whose goal is to entrench child rights programming in all development processes in Malawi anchored under the fundamental principles of the rights of the child: Non-discrimination, the best interest of a child, right to life survival and development and participation within the evolving capacities of the child. It was founded in 2010 by various Civil Society networks in Malawi.

The organisation currently has 7 people as secretariat. It also has members as organisations or individuals in almost all the districts in the country. The offices are located in Lilongwe, capital city of Malawi.

As an Administrative Assistant I manage daily correspondence and maintain the organisation’s filling system, organise meetings and make appointments, and provide secretarial support among many other duties. My role requires me to make very good decisions every now and then. When I am expected to make decisions I appreciate one of the modules that ABE offers, Analytical Decision Making as it has always been my reference point.

After I finished high school, I was one of the people that got a chance of being offered a place at one of the prestigious public universities In Malawi. My aunt who is also an administrative assistant at one of the biggest hospitals in Lilongwe and an alumni of ABE introduced me to ABE at her former school. At first, I was not sure of the path I was taking. I thought I made the wrong decision but this was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I enjoyed the content in the subjects as it truly reflected the current business environment. This is where I developed so much love for my career and started enjoying every bit of my journey. Getting ABE qualifications did not only give me a chance to apply for jobs or universities. They also gave the exposure and a better understanding of what we see every day in the business world. As if that is not enough, as an individual they also helped me build my confidence back that if we did not get there “that way” we can still do it and make it “the ABE Way”. It would be very unfair if I did not admit the fact that I managed to get my first job using my ABE skills and qualifications.

In my current job, I enjoy taking on new challenges and making influential decisions.

Starting or continuing your career ABE is one of the best decisions you will ever make. You will get all the support you need throughout your journey from your centre, head office, and even in the comfort of your home through the portal. For you to enjoy the journey, invest your time to study and understand the concepts and content of the subjects. You will not only get the paper at the end of the day, but you will also get the skills that the current business market demand.''
