I chose ABE because it is recognised worldwide and growing in recognition in Guyana. It was affordable for me while I was unemployed, and has continued to allow me flexibility so I can take units while I’m working. Should I decide to pursue a degree programme in the future, ABE also has a top-up programme that allows for an easier transition to a leading UK university or a local one.

Geetanjali initially lacked confidence in her academic abilities but still managed to achieve a Top Paper Award #ABEway.  In the long term she plans to become a fiction writer whilst running her own business.  Here's her story,

"I was raised in Albouystown Guyana for most of my life and I am the youngest granddaughter in a family of accountants, doctors, singers, dancers, radio personnel, entrepreneurs, and members of the legal profession. I always thought of myself as a bit of an underachiever and was at some point not career-oriented or confident in my talents or skills.

The impression of ABE in Guyana is that of recognition. However, ABE offers a range of courses now requiring the application of real-world business scenarios, which can in terms inspire something that many overlook, creativity, and innovative thinking. These traits are two sought-after qualities that a modern employer in Guyana would look. ABE certainly offers a unique range of courses that can address various concerns of business in ways that inspire these qualities in students, giving an open mind to the curriculum.

There are many things that ABE can offer a student, affordable tuition, a variety of career options in Management, HR and Marketing, flexibility with a busy work schedule to balance extracurriculars, work, and study, plus a recognised qualification, and even the skills necessary for the modern workplace, but most importantly, assurance that the pursued career is one which will be backed by more than just academic insight into the field. Since my journey with ABE began, I have more proficient analytical skills, was exposed to innovative and quantitative techniques that can support problem-solving and better decision making, gained a wider scope of understanding of modern business and was introduced to the HR functions of organisations and its role.

For successful study, I highly recommend that attention be given to the command words asked. It is also helpful to read the study guide in advance of the assessment period, to enable better use of time and more room for additional research.  I would recommend every researcher to select a familiar organisation, or one where a representative can be interviewed for insight on operational activities; and lastly, to simply place themselves in the shoes of an employee or manager of that said organisation to truly understand the depth of how different scenarios affect the organisation.

I dream of one day becoming a fiction writer and running my own business alongside my writing. After ABE Level 6 I am considering ABE’s top-up programme to attain the requirements to pursue a degree . I also intend to further my career in the HR department of a reputable and large corporation, while I continue to pursue other academic goals in accounting."
