Successful entrepreneur, Monica, achieved her first ABE qualification in 2008 and used the knowledge she gained to start her own business, Evelyte Civil Engineering and Building Contractors. She rejoined ABE at Level 6 in 2019 to help her develop the strategic marketing skills she needed to expand her business and achieve her long-term ambition to grow it into a multinational company. Here's her story:
"I am from the warm heart of Africa, Malawi, married with children. I come from a family of four people, three girls and a boy.
Firstly, I would like to thank God for granting me this chance to be amongst those that have achieved a Top Paper Award. Winning for the unit: Strategy Marketing Relationships is one of the greatest achievements that I have experienced. I am really humbled and proud. The award has proved to me that hard work and dedication can help in achieving greater levels in life.
ABE in Malawi is recognised as one of the best professional Diploma certificates to help people gain global knowledge. The graduates from ABE are regarded as great assets to companies in the country.
My journey started in 2008 when a friend encouraged me to study with ABE, I got a Certificate in Business Management. With the knowledge I acquired from the course and support from a few engineers, I managed to register a construction company which I named; Evelyte Civil Engineering and Building Contractors. After running the business for eleven years, I felt I was lacking the marketing skills to expand it. So in 2019, I enrolled with PACT College to study L6 Business Management and Marketing, my aim was to acquire new marketing strategies.
Studying with ABE has helped me gain knowledge which has led to the expansion of my business, we have ventured into other construction activities such as office partitioning and transforming client’s offices from old fashioned setups to the new ones.
I would like to recommend ABE for studying business subjects, it offers high-quality education and can help one become a successful professional business career person like me.
ABE has increased my thinking to a new higher level and I am able to find more potential business opportunities in the construction sector. It has been an eye-opener.
I plan to further my studies with a Bachelors Degree in marketing and Masters in Strategic Management. My long-term goal is to expand the business into a multinational company.
My advice to my fellow students undertaking ABE or planning to enrol, is that everything is possible if we put effort into our studies, the path to success is not easy, you have got to be consistent and dedicated to what you want to achieve.
Finally, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, once said, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Wishing is not enough; we must do.” This is one of my favourite quotes. It should always remind us to apply what we learn and take action towards success, rather than waiting and hoping."
