Hamsana Madawen is a CEO and fashion designer from Sri Lanka. She has 5+ years of experience in the fashion industry. Hamsana chose to study ABE level 6 Business Management at Braintree International to enhance her managerial skills. She intends to incorporate the knowledge gained towards the expansion of her brand in the fashion industry in local and overseas markets. Here is her full story:
''I am Hamsana Madawen from Sri Lanka. I am a CEO and Fashion Designer of ‘MH Sri Lanka’ since 2020 and have almost 5+ years of experience as a Fashion Designer. My family plays a major role in my academic and professional growth, my father is a hardware businessman, and my mother is a homemaker. I have two elder sisters and they have their own businesses in event planning and handmade jewellery respectively. As an individual, I’m a collegial person and my strengths are my creativity and enthusiasm for learning new applications with a positive attitude. In my early career, I worked as an assistant accountant with a background in commerce from my higher secondary school and level 2 award in Fundamentals of Financial Services at the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment. However, I always had a passion for creativity and a keen eye for detail. To qualify, I have studied NVQ level 6 Higher National Diploma in Fashion Design Technology at the University College of Ratmalana, Sri Lanka from 2015 to 2018 and worked for famous brands in Sri Lanka.
I wanted to advance myself in business to be able to ace my proficiency in a managerial role in the long run in order to develop my business from local to the global market. Thus, to obtain the education in my profile, I chose to study ABE level 6 Business Management at Braintree International to enhance my academic and managerial skills in areas such as analytics and strategic thinking, business development, creative problem-solving and decision-making, entrepreneurial mindset, and highly effective communication and research skills.
In Sri Lanka, ABE is widely accepted and highly regarded among business and entrepreneurial employers as it offers internationally recognised qualifications that focus on developing back-end management and practical workplace skills alongside strong theoretical knowledge.
After completing this course, my immediate plan is to pursue a postgraduate MBA programme in Sri Lanka to gain more knowledge in management which will help me to expand my business further.

ABE enhanced my academic and managerial skills in areas such as analytics and strategic thinking, business development, creative problem-solving and decision-making, an entrepreneurial mindset, and highly effective communication and research skills. Through this, I reap the benefits to developing myself as an effective strategic leader and move a step towards my business goal by implementing strategic plans.
As a dedicated student, I would advise students to prioritise and give sufficient time to learning and developing a productive space to achieve success in their studies.
In the long term, I see myself working in a strategic entrepreneurial capacity and marking my contribution to the success of my company. To be at the forefront of creative product development, I aim to acquire strong skills, diverse knowledge in my field, and leadership and management experiences. I intend to incorporate the new knowledge and technology towards the expansion of my 'MH' brand in the fashion industry in local and overseas markets.''
