Senior ITSM Analyst Himeshi had graduated with a first class degree in engineering when she chose ABE to further develop her skillset and help her move into a more senior management position. She tells us her manager is now encouraging other members of the team to do the same. Here's her story:
"I’m from the beautiful country of Sri Lanka. While I’m originally from Badulla, I moved to the urban city of Colombo when I was 7 years old as my mother’s work brought her here. It was a drastic change at the time, but it was also a blessing which allowed both myself and my brother to receive great educational and employment opportunities. I completed my higher education with APIIT and received a first class in my Bachelors degree in Engineering from Staffordshire University, UK. Since then, I have been employed in the IT industry and currently work as a Senior ITSM analyst at Wiley.
I’ve always believed we should never stop learning. Most of my educational background is in the IT sector. To move ahead in my professional goals as well as in life I decided it was essential to have a qualification in business management.
From what I have seen and experienced ABE is accepted as a good qualification. During my course noticed students from various backgrounds showing a great interest in the contents of the Diploma. Additionally, when informed about my course completion, my manager was also keen to encourage my team members to follow the same.
After I receive all my results with ABE, with this additional qualification I am hoping to move further up in my industry to a better position. Thanks to the award and reward from ABE I am also open to exploring other streams in ABE qualifications, possibly in marketing. I found it was exciting to learn new subjects and the flow and presentation of the course content was very clear and easy to follow and understand.
As a data analyst, I was able to utilise the skills in project management to successfully implement new reporting structures in my organisation. Understanding conflict resolution methodologies with ABE also helped me to improve my professional relationships when collaborating with new teams. All the units in this course encouraged me to improve my strategic thinking, which led me to innovate new strategies for my current position.
Learning to manage time efficiently was key for me. Never procrastinate and wait for deadlines. Planning tasks and sticking to them on time will help you improve your assignment content.
In the near future, my goal is to become an expert in my current field to move into a management role. Long-term I would like to consider an independent consultant role."
