As part of ABE’s commitment to embedding sustainability within business education, learners in Ghana recently took part in an inspiring excursion to explore how organisations are putting sustainable business principles into practice.
In collaboration with our study centres, ABE Ghana organised visits to the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) and Labianca Company Limited — a leading frozen food importer and key stakeholder of GPHA.
The trip connected directly with ABE’s new Sustainability qualifications, designed to help learners understand the intersection of business strategy, environmental stewardship, and community impact.
During the visit, students gained real-world insights into Ghana’s evolving port sector, including recent infrastructure projects such as the Meridian Port Services container terminal and Takoradi Port service hub, which have enhanced the country’s global competitiveness.
GPHA shared details of its ‘green agenda’, which focuses on long-term sustainability through tree planting, waste reduction and recycling programmes, and investment in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Learners also saw first-hand the Authority’s work to reduce plastic waste entering the ocean, protect marine ecosystems, and maintain clean coastlines to support sustainable tourism and fisheries.
This hands-on experience brought ABE’s sustainability learning to life — helping students link theory to real-world challenges and solutions. It demonstrated how business leaders can drive economic success while safeguarding people and the planet.
