ABE launches new sustainability qualifications to equip learners with green skills for the future

As demand for sustainability expertise accelerates across industries, ABE has launched a new suite of Sustainability qualifications designed to help learners and organisations build the skills needed to drive meaningful environmental and organisational change.

The new Level 4 qualifications enable colleges, training providers, and employers to deliver practical, career-relevant learning that supports the global transition to a greener economy.

Meeting the growing demand for green skills

With employers globally investing in sustainability and environmental stewardship, the need for professionals with the right knowledge has never been greater. According to LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report (2024), individuals with green skills are 55% more likely to be hired.

“These qualifications are about giving learners and organisations the tools to lead the green transition,” said Melanie Robinson, ABE Managing Director. “Sustainability is no longer a niche area—it’s a core business competence, and ABE's new programmes will help training providers prepare learners for a low-carbon future.”

Flexible, employer-focused learning

The new ABE Sustainability Qualification Suite includes awards and certificates in:

  • Strategic Sustainability
  • Green Marketing
  • Creating a Sustainable Working Environment

Each qualification focuses on practical application in the workplace, offering:

  • Bite-sized learning units that fit around work commitments
  • Rolling assessment cycles for flexible delivery
  • Study guides and one year's complimentary membership of The Institute of Leadership for learners

The flagship Level 4 Certificate in Strategic Sustainability develops the ability to design and implement ESG strategies, write carbon management policies, and create sustainable operational frameworks using tools such as Lifecycle Analysis (LCA).

Supporting colleges and training providers

ABE’s Sustainability Suite has been designed to make delivery straightforward for educators.  Assessments are marked by ABE, and successful learners are automatically sent hardcopy certificates, minimising the administrative burden for centres.  Along with study guides for learners, each unit is also supported by a guide for tutors.

“Providers can focus on what they do best—teaching and inspiring learners—while ABE manages the assessment and certification,” added Dr Simon Pitt, Director of Quality, Risk and Standards.

Doing the right thing—for careers, organisations, and the planet

In keeping with ABE’s mission to foster sustainable business growth, the launch campaign carries the message:

“The smart choice—for your career, your organisation, and our planet.”
