Assessment strategy provides learners a greater advantage

""

When planning our Global Assessment Strategy for 2022 we looked ahead to a time when the impact of COVID is diminishing, and assessments could be considered on merit alone.  This involved detailed analysis of assessment data, research, discussions with stakeholders, and academic input.

As a result, we can confirm our assessments globally will be a mix of assignments and Open-Book Exams (OBEs).  Rather than testing memory, OBEs test a learner’s ability to apply their learning in a real business context.

Talking about the assessment strategy, ABE’s Director of Products and Services, Vicky Mose, said, “We are moving to the OBE format because it is most relevant to the modern workplace.  It develops crucial skills such as researching information, critical analysis, report writing and time management. OBEs allow learners to really demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world situations. Finally, the assessments also provide excellent preparation for academic progression as they are closely aligned to the type of assessments used by universities. For these reasons, we think they offer ABE learners their greatest-ever advantage.”
